McKay puts forward DVA proposal to save over 300 jobs
Sinn Féin Economy Spokesperson Daithí McKay has put a forward a proposal to the Finance Minister that he look into the transfer of DVA functions to the Assembly.
Such a move would protect over 300 jobs that are at risk locally and to
safeguard the local service that is provided.
Speaking after chairing the Finance Committee today he said:
"I proposed to the Finance Minister at the committee meeting today that
the Assembly takes full control of the functioning of the DVA.
“This case clearly demonstrates the need for local politicians to take
responsibility for local jobs.
"We need to put a focus on saving these public service jobs and the best
way to do that is to bring them under the remit of the Assembly.
"This is not a significant transfer of powers such as Corporation Tax, it
would be a common sense move. I am glad that the Finance Minister has agreed to
my request to look at this.
“We need to take these powers away from a British Minister who has indicated that he is minded to take these jobs out of the north and give them to Swansea."
