PSNI need to cooperate with the Coroners Court over Shoot to Kill inquests
Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd has called on the PSNI to fully cooperate with the Coroners Court and produce all papers required to complete the Shoot to Kill inquests.
Mr O’Dowd was speaking after it was revealed in the Coroners Court today that papers may not be handed over until 2014.
Mr O’Dowd said:
“The families of the six men shot dead by the RUC in North Armagh in the winter of 1982 have now been waiting 31 years for an inquest into the deaths of their loved ones.
“At every juncture along the way obstacles have been placed in their path. Every time the families have overcome those barriers only to find another erected in their way.
“Domestic courts, European Courts and the Coroners Court have ruled that the PSNI must cooperate with the inquest.
“Further delay in the PSNI handing over all papers is an affront to justice and democracy. The PSNI must stop delaying these inquests or be seen to fail both justice and democracy.”
