Coveney must protect Ireland’s interests at fishery talks: Ferris
Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on agriculture and the marine, Martin Ferris TD, has urged agriculture minister, Simon Coveney, to protect Ireland’s interests when he attends mackerel fishing talks in London next week.
Martin Ferris was speaking as EU talks took place in Luxembourg about a dispute with Iceland and the Faroe Islands regarding overfishing of mackerel stocks.
The North Kerry TD said:
“The minister must stand up for Ireland and protect the interests of the Irish fishing industry at these talks and at the EU negotiations.
“He has to put the case for extra quota for Ireland and then to ensure that the quota is distributed equitably here at home.”
