Sinn Féin takes part in EU discussion on Cyprus
Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer has addressed a conference in European Parliament Brussels entitled ‘The Cyprus Problem’ and said that the Irish Peace Process experience is still much sought.
Mr. McAleer said,
“I was delighted to represent Sinn Féin at a conference in Europe organised by GUE/NGL, the European United Left/Nordic Green Left parliamentary group, of which Sinn Fein is a member, to discuss “The Cyprus Problem’.
“The experience of the Irish Peace Process is still much sought after by other nations in conflict resolution mode so I was delighted to outline Sinn Féin’s position and strategy.
“As well as offering our experience it was also good to hear other examples of conflict resolution as while our peace process is progressing it is not perfect.
“This was a great opportunity to engage with different groupings from across Europe in discussing peace and conflict resolution.
“I reinforced the Sinn Féin position that problems can be addressed through dialogue and that no matter how difficult the situation appears it can be overcome.
“I welcome the fact that the conference has been held and that people have come together in the European Parliament to discuss conflict resolution.”
