There must be a public inquiry in Dublin City incinerator fiasco - Stanley
Responding to this evenings news that the European Commission has called on Dublin City Council to terminate a PR contract at the Poolbeg incinerator Sinn Fein's environment spokesperson, Brian Stanley TD, has said Dublin City Council’s incinerator plans are up in smoke.
Deputy Stanley said;
“This whole Design, Build and Operate contract has been a political and financial disaster from the beginning. The plans for a regional incinerator were fundamentally flawed from the start.
“It is now time to call a halt to the incinerator. It has cost Dublin citizens millions. It is grotesque in the extreme that hard pressed households are being forced to pay a Local Property Tax. Meanwhile the council has paid €30 million for client services and a public relations contract.
“I am calling on the Minister for Environment to order a full public inquiry in to this sorry episode. Nothing less is acceptable to the public.”
