Farming meeting a huge success
Sinn Féin MLA Bronwyn McGahan has said that a meeting held last night in the Clogher Valley Community Centre was a great success.
Ms. McGahan stated,
“Up to 250 local farmers took the opportunity to come along last night and discuss the future of the Single Farm Payments with officials from DARD who facilitated the discussion.
“The meeting organised by Sinn Féin was also attended by Fermanagh MLA Sean Lynch heard views on many subjects including the Single Farm Payment, dual claims, rates of payments, greening measures and modulation.
“The attendance at the meeting highlighted the concern within the farming community to the proposed changes to the SFP and the other issues raised.
“Farmers have been squeezed financially over the past few years between extreme weather conditions and lower prices at the market so it is important that we maximise the information available for farmers to access grants and European funding.
“Other topics raised included Coupled Support, LFACA, Areas of Natural Constraint, Capping and the Small Farmers Scheme
“This was an excellent opportunity for farmers to have their concerns addressed and queries answered and Sinn Féin will continue to bring important information sessions into the heart of our rural community in order to protect the livelihood of our local farmers.”
