Belfast bomb attack will achieve nothing - Maskey

25 November, 2013 - by Alex Maskey

Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has slammed those behind the bomb attack in Belfast city centre last night stating that it will achieve nothing while endangering many people.

Speaking today Mr Maskey said:

“The bomb attack last night in Belfast City centre was completely reckless and endangered may local people and indeed those who were visiting Belfast.

“Had this bomb detonated to its full capacity we could very well be dealing with many injured or killed. And what would it have achieved?

“Almost 20 years after the first ceasefires these groups still have not realised that there is no community support for their actions. The vast majority of society has endorsed the peace process and want to move forward.

“There is now a democratic and peaceful way to bring about Irish unity. There is no reason whatever for any group to engage in or promote or support violent actions.

“These actions are disrupting people's lives, sending more people to prison and could eventually lead to a loss of life.

“Whoever is behind these attacks need to stop and stop immediately.”
