MSD Job losses a devastating blow for workers – Cullinane
Speaking on the news that 570 workers are to lose their jobs at the MSD pharmaceuticals in Swords, Senator David Cullinane Sinn Féin spokesperson for jobs, enterprise and innovation said;
“This is a devastating blow for workers, some who have worked at the plant for twenty years. These are well paid quality jobs in manufacturing that are lost. I have raised on a number of occasions with the minister the need to support jobs in the manufacturing sector and to act on challenges facing pharmaceuticals in particular.
“It appears that this government is more interested in spin. Two years ago the Taoiseach spoke at the MSD Ballydine site to announce that the economy was turning the corner. Since then the group has shed 850 jobs between the Swords and Wicklow sites.
“It is clear that there has been jobs growth but it appears that these are in low paid sectors and job losses continue in manufacturing.”
