Adams responds to Taoiseach address
While the state may have exited the so-called 'bailout', Irish citizens will still be forced to pay back a debt that is not theirs.
Responding to this evening's televised address by An Taoiseach, Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams TD said:
"There was nothing in what the Taoiseach had to say that will provide any comfort or hope to those families who have borne the brunt of this Government's brutal austerity policies.
"It is very clear from Mr Kenny's address that the austerity agenda pursued with such devastating consequences by Fine Gael and Labour will continue unabated.
"The cuts to services will continue. The ever-increasing list of charges and stealth taxes will continue.
"The Taoiseach used his broadcast to announce a new economic plan which he claims will address the jobs crisis.
"This is the latest in a long line of similar announcements from this government, none of which have created any meaningful number of jobs.
"While the state may have exited the so-called 'bailout', Irish citizens will still be forced to pay back a debt that is not theirs.
"This Government has trumpeted the exit of the Troika, but the reality is that the Troika policy remains.
"What is needed is a change of direction and a change of Government."
