Government Strategy for Growth – Old Promises Written with New Ink: Cullinane
Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Senator David Cullinane has accused the Government of writing old promises in new ink when drafting their medium term economic strategy.
“Today’s much heralded Strategy for Growth is nothing more than old promises in new ink. With regard to SME’s the government is letting the banks off the hook for their failure to lend despite massive public investment. Many of the credit innovations of the government, such as the Micro-Enterprise Loans fund and Load guarantee, have failed to meet their targets for lending.
“The report makes much of the development of Local Enterprises Offices. We have been waiting over three years for these to be established. The report fails to address the regional disparities in employment and address the needs of communities in the South East and along the Border.
“This response by the government to the jobs crisis to date has been to rely on emigration, undermine workers’ rights and wages and promote low paid jobs. It would appear that the government is promising more of the same.”
