Government spinning on HSE Service Plan - Ó Caoláin
Commenting on the news that the HSE's 2014 Service Plan has been approved by Health Minister James Reilly and is to be published tomorrow, Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said:
"News of the Minister's approval of the HSE Service Plan 2014 has been released this evening with a Government 'spin' claiming that cuts, including those to medical cards, are to be less than previously signalled.
“This is clearly an attempt at news management before anyone outside Government gets to see the Plan in advance of its publication tomorrow.
“If it is the case that the cuts to medical cards in particular are going to be less than signalled then it is down to determined campaigning against the cuts by the many people affected and by political voices, including Sinn Féin. It also begs the question where the Minister pulled the original figures from in the first place. The Minister should put the Plan up on his Department's website immediately and let people judge for themselves."
