Doherty lobbies for new MS drug to be made available in Six Counties

23 August, 2004

West Tyrone Sinn Féin MP Pat Doherty has written to Direct Rule Health Minister Angela Smith requesting that she considers making a new treatment for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) sufferers available in the six counties.

Mr Doherty said,

"Further to representations from constituents, I have written to Direct Rule Health Minister Angela Smith requesting that she make arrangements for the new drug AIMSPRO be made available to MS sufferers in the six counties.

"AIMSPRO is based on the serum of goats blood, and while Daval International, the company who have developed the treatment, has yet to fully complete all its clinical trials, anecdotal evidence suggests that it not only eases the incapacitating affects of MS, but may reverse the damage wreaked by the disease.

"Hundreds of MS sufferers in Britain have already received this treatment and their quality of life has been transformed.

"This new drug offers real hope for MS sufferers and I have called on the Minister to ensure equality of opportunity for MS sufferers here. ENDS
