No surprise that no one in Magherafelt is aware of DPP

23 August, 2004

Sinn Féin Mid Ulster MLA Gereldine Dougan has said that it is no surprise that in a recent survey in South Derry that less that 1 in 10 people were aware of the existence of the Magherafelt District Policing Partnership.

Ms Dougan said:

"It comes as no surprise that no one in South Derry knows anything about the existence of the Magherafelt District Policing Partnership. The reality for nationalists is that there is no difference between the PSNI of today and the RUC of yesterday.

"If the experience of policing remains unchanged, why would anyone even suspect that there have even been any cosmetic changes?

"The DPPs, just like the Policing Board, are unable to deliver a new beginning to policing and are unable to hold the PSNI to account. The current policing arrangements fail the Patten thresh hold test. They are unable to deliver accountable, representative policing that is free from partisan political control." ENDS
