Stanley welcomes chance to examine incinerator proposal
The Sinn Féin Spokesperson on the Environment Brian Stanley TD has welcomed the fact that Dublin City Manager Owen Keegan is to appear before the Environment Committee this afternoon to answer questions regarding the proposed incinerator at Poolbeg.
Deputy Stanley said:
“I welcome the fact that Mr. Keegan is to appear today, as I have requested for some time. It will provide us with an opportunity to final get answers to many questions regarding the proposed incinerator.
“The fact of the matter is that the incinerator has been shown to be impractical and unnecessary for several reasons but that Dublin City Council has still not formally indicated that it has abandoned it. While Mr. Keegan is not responsible for the initial decision, he is now in a position to make that formal acknowledgement.
“It is unfortunate that €90 million of taxpayers money has been frittered away on this white elephant, much of it to pay PR companies to persuade people that it was a good idea. We now need answers as to why anyone thought it was a good idea in the first place, and even if it was, to justify such payments.”
