Pipe-bombers need deterred by tough sentencing – Daithí McKay

8 February, 2014

North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has condemned last night's pipe bomb attack at a GAA pitch in Ahoghill.

Daithí McKay said:

“This is a sectarian attack and needs to be condemned outright.

“The recent case where a person previously involved in similar actions and his subsequent lenient sentence, demonstrates the need for the judiciary to take attacks on this community more seriously.

“Unionist extremists clearly feel that they can carry out such attacks in this area with some impunity.  People in this community are angry, and rightly so, at the judges who decided to hand down a sentence of community service for a previous attack here.

"I would encourage people and other clubs in the area to be extremely vigilant and anyone with information relating to the attack or any suspicious activity to bring it forward to the police.

Such attacks belong in the past and no one wants to see any more of these attacks or any tit-for-tat attacks in response to this.”
