"Tá tuairisc oibre thar barr ag SF maidir le cur chun cinn agus tacaíocht na Gaeilge de, a bhfuil an-aitheantas air ar fud  oileán na hÉireann.  Déanann muid seo ar bhonn laethiúil sna hinstitiúdaí a bhfuil ionadaíocht againn – sa Tionól, sa Dáil Sa Seanad, sna comhairlí aitiúla agus san Eoraip.

Sinn Féin’s record on promoting and supporting the Irish language is widely acknowledged throughout the island of Ireland.  We do so on a daily in all the institutions where we have representation which includes the Assembly in the north, the Dáil, the Seanad, local councils and the EU.

Go hairithe, tá obair ar Leith idir lamh ag ár airí rialtais le chinntiú go bhfuil an Ghaeilge I measc priorachtaí s’acu.  Mar gheall air sin,  Inniu tá an fheachtas Líofa again, obair forbartha ar Acht na Gaeilge, Straitéis Gaeilge, Acadamh Gaeilge agus scéim sparánachta do foghlaimeoirí Gaeilge.  Tá Gaeloideachas an-láidir inniu mar thoradh ár 3 aire oideachais, ar chuir na milliún punt isteach san earnáil iad. Agus mile buíochas do Conor Murphy  a rinne cinnte go bhfuil comharthaí dátheangacha again sa réimse iompair phoiblí.

In particular, our ministers in DCAL, Deptartment of Education, DARD and formerly DRD have taken specific actions to ensure that the Irish language is among their priorities.

This is why today we have the Líofa campaign, developmental work on  Acht na Gaeilge, Irish language strategy, an Acadamh Gaeilge and Bursary schemes for learners of Irish.  The promotion and support for Irish by our three Education Ministers has resulted in a very robust IME sector which has seen multi millions of pounds invested in the education of our school children.  Thanks to Conor Murphy when he was DRD minister, we have all sorts of bilingual signage in the public transport arena.

Tá áit lárnach ag ár gníomhaithe I gcur chun cinn sráidainmneacha dátheangacha. Bhí ról bunúsach again fosta nuair a bunaíodh eagraíochtaí tabhachtacha cosúil leis an Ciste Craolachain agus an Ciste Infheistíochta Gaeilge.

Our activists have been central in the promotion of bilingual street signage.  We have also had a fundamental role in the setting up and continuation of important bodies like the Broadcast Fund and Ciste Infheistíochta Gaeilge.

Tá stór oibre eile déanta ag SF ar chúrsaí Gaeilge agus tá roinnt mhaith eile le déanamh go fóill.  Tá ról ag gach duine taobh istigh sa pháirtí ó thaobh tacaíocht na Gaeilge de agus tá sé an-tábhachtach go ndéanfaidh muid sin.

Much more work has been carried out on Irish language issues by Sinn Féin but there is still much more to be done. Everyone in the party has a role to play in supporting the Irish language and it is very important that we continue to do that."
