DUP Social Development disruption smokescreen for minister - McCann
Sinn Féin MLA Fra McCann said today that under fire DSD minister Nelson McCausland still has serious questions to answer despite his DUP colleagues disrupting an inquiry in Stormont this morning.
Today’s DSD committee meeting had to be adjourned after DUP members shouted down efforts to question the minister into allegations on the BBC Spotlight programme that the minister misled the assembly.
Speaking after the meeting was adjourned Mr McCann said:
“The questions raised by Spotlight won’t go away despite the best efforts of DUP members to disrupt the proceedings of the committee,”
“DUP members of the committee were warned four times by the chair Alex Maskey about shouting down other members of the committee who were asking probing questions of the minister.
“They were warned that the meeting would be adjourned if they continued to do this.
“Sammy Wilson went so far as to question the terms of reference of the inquiry despite Mr Wilson working on and agreeing those very terms with other members of the committee.
“It is clear to me that this tactic of disruption was an attempt by the DUP to provide cover for the minister.”
