Urgent action required to stop antisocial activity at interface - Ó Donnghaile

14 April, 2014

Sinn Féin Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile has said that the PSNI must take action against those who are involved in nightly disturbances at the interface in East Belfast.

Speaking from the area this morning Cllr Ó Donnghaile said;

"The reality is that residents are at their wits end. I have flagged the fact that this has been happening for weeks now with the media, I have raised it directly with the PSNI and yet those responsible have been free to gather every night and cause trouble. This is unacceptable.

"These events have absolutely nothing to do with any inter community issues in East Belfast but are being deliberately organised by young people via social media every single night.

"I have spoken again with residents last night, some of whom are considering moving home due to these incidents. They deserve to be left to live in peace."I have consistently called on parents to act responsibly and ensure their children are not involved in this trouble as it would ultimately have consequences. Both myself and my colleague Alex Maskey will be seeking an urgent meeting with senior PSNI and the Minister for Justice to ensure the safety and well being of those residents affected is paramount going forward."
