Cullinane gives SIPTU representatives his full support at meeting to discuss the future of 1,110 jobs at Bausch and Lomb
Waterford based Sinn Fein Senator David Cullinane has given his full support and that of the Sinn Fein party to the workers at Bausch and Lomb at a meeting held today between Waterford Oireachtas members, SIPTU and shop stewards.
Speaking following the meeting Senator Cullinane said:
"This is a very tense time for all 1100 workers at the Waterford plant. Every effort must be made to save as many jobs as possible. All Oireachtas members present have agreed to work together to achieve the best outcome for the workers and their families.
"The Oireachtas members present have sought an urgent meeting with the Vice President of Bausch and Lomb Angelo Conti. It is important he and the company management understand the importance of maintaining as many jobs as possible and the future of the plant long term in Waterford."
"No stone can go unturned and there is a clear responsibility on the Government to provide support and assistance. It is important that the trade unions and the company management are given the time and space to negotiate in good faith to get the best outcome for the workers and their families."
