No lack of will for talks - Murphy

24 June, 2014 - by Conor Murphy

Sinn Féin MP Conor Murphy this morning said Alliance leader David Ford was being disingenuous when he called for Martin McGuinness to set dates for talks on flags, parades and the past.

Conor Murphy said:

“David Ford is being a little disingenuous this morning in calling on Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness to set dates to get the talks started.

“David Ford is well aware that Sinn Féin and Martin McGuinness in particular has been calling for talks to start on these issues since the failure of the UUP and DUP to sign up to the Haass proposals.

“Sinn Féin made it clear publically at the beginning of last week that our negotiating team had cleared ten days out of diaries to take part in new talks. We have been very frustrated at the lack of movement by the main unionist parties to date.

“So David Ford knows there is clearly no lack of will on our part to get involved in all-party talks to tackle these toxic issues and he should be more honest about where the fault for the delays lie.”
