McCann welcomes commitment to transforming education provision in the Colin area
Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister, Jennifer McCann, has welcomed the announcement by Education Minister John O Dowd in terms of supporting the transformation of educational provisioning in the wider Colin area which will include a new build for the combined St Mark’s/ St Luke’s primary schools in the Twinbrook area.
Speaking today Ms McCann said:
“I welcome the announcement by the Education Minister, John O Dowd, on a new build for the combined St Mark’s/ St Luke’s primary schools in Twinbrook.
“This is a huge boost both in terms of educational provision and infrastructure for the Colin area.
“It will help boost the the Department of Social Development led project to invest in a ‘Colin Town Centre’ programme providing first class facilities for the people of this area.
“The Colin area has a huge population and in terms of service provision this will aid greatly in the rebalancing the historical deficit that exists.
“The Minister has further committed his support to this project which includes plans for a new post-primary school in the area.
“This will be the icing on the cake for education in Colin and I would hope that any barriers that exist in the wider area planning issues can be over come in order to ensure that plans for the new post primary school are progressed as a matter of urgency.”
