Parades Commission must be free from threat or pressure - McKay
North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay speaking in the Assembly today on the issue of Parades said:
"The Parades Commission must be allowed to get on with their job without being threatened by the DUP or the Orange Order or under pressure from the NIO.
"We do not want to see another Grand Old Duke of York act from unionist politicians in Belfast this year.
"It is not good for police officers or their safety.
"It is not good for business or the image of Belfast
"It is not good for young Unionists and others who end up with criminal records and being processed through the criminal justice system as a result of unionist leaders words and actions.
"The public want to see issues pertaining to parades, flags and the past dealt with. They want these issues dealt with so that we can focus on the future. There needs to be leadership shown. We cannot afford the economic damage, the community damage and the political damage that the lack of leadership results in year in year out." CRÍOCH/ENDS
