Zero tolerance approach could save lives
Sinn Féin Policing Board member Caitriona Ruane has welcomed the measures announced yesterday by Assistant Chief Constable Steven Martin designed to reduce deaths on our road.
Ms. Ruane said,
“I fully support the PSNI in announcing a no tolerance stance against drivers who drive carelessly.
“Over the past two years deaths on our road have been on the increase after several years of a decline and these actions are intended to reverse the current trend.
“The measures are designed to get drivers to slow down, wear a seatbelt and not to use a mobile phone while driving.
“Statistics show that these three areas contribute to a large proportion of deaths on our roads so I would appeal to drivers to work with all the agencies and adhere to the rules of the road.”
