Seán Crowe TD welcomes ceasefire in Ukraine
Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Seán Crowe TD, has welcomed the news that the Ukrainian Government and eastern rebels have signed a ceasefire agreement, which is effective immediately.
Deputy Seán Crowe said:
“Reading through media and other reports I understand that this is a preliminary truce and there is a lot more to be negotiated before there is a comprehensive peace deal.
“However this is a very important first step and I warmly welcome the potential this now opens up for real peace.
“The onus is now on all sides to abide by this ceasefire agreement and work towards achieving a lasting peace process.
“The east of Ukraine has been heavily affected by the conflict. There is a shortage of food, clothing, electricity, and clean water in many areas, with vital infrastructure having been destroyed.
“I hope that this truce will allow humanitarian aid to be urgently delivered to all those in need.”
