Bombardier job losses disappointing
Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey has said that the announcement by Bombardier that it is to make 390 workers redundant is a big blow to the workers and the local economy.
Mr Maskey said,
“Over the past few years Bombardier has been one of the success stories of our economy by growing its workforce to over 6,000 people.
“The news today that 390 people, including 300 temporary staff, are to be made redundant is a blow to the local economy.
“I am calling on the ministers in Education and Learning, and Enterprise, Trade and Investment, to set up a taskforce to provide retraining and support for the workers affected.
“Bombardier has a long history of plane making in Belfast so I hope that this downturn is only a temporary set back and that the company gets back to expanding its Belfast operation.” ENDS/CRÍOCH
