Joan Burton fails to live up to promises on low pay commission - Peadar Tóibín TD
Following the publication of the Government’s legislative programme for the year ahead Sinn Féin TD Peadar Tóibín has accused Labour leader Joan Burton of speaking out of both sides of her mouth on tackling low pay.
Sinn Féin’s Jobs Spokesperson said:
“On taking up her position as leader of the Labour party Joan Burton said setting up a low pay commission was a policy priority for Government.
“Today the Government published it legislative programme, and lo and behold we find the necessary legislation to set up the commission has been relegated to the C list.
“Despite all the new Labour leaders promises she appears to have neither sought nor secured approval from her cabinet colleagues for the low pay commission legislation.
“Yet again Joan Burton has proved she absolutely no interest in pursuing a progressive agenda in Government for transformative economic and social change.”
