Ruairí Quinn should not second guess Irish people’s view on Irish Unity – Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

23 September, 2014 - by Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has said Ruairí Quinn should not second guess the Irish people’s view on Irish Unity.

Deputy Ó Snodaigh was speaking today after the Labour TD suggested that a border poll in Ireland “would simply confirm to us what we already know”.

He said;

“Nobody has anything to fear from a border poll. The Scottish referendum was an excellent exercise in democracy and showed that public debate and dialogue is healthy for society.

“Ruairí Quinn’s dismissal of the idea of an Irish border poll is disappointing. He should not presume to second guess the Irish people’s view on Irish Unity.

“His comment that any such poll ‘would simply confirm to us what we already know’ only serves to highlight his own arrogance.

“The only way to gauge the view of the Irish people on Irish Unity is to hold a border poll and I believe that the time is right for that to happen now.”
