Taoiseach embracing Fianna Fáil style stroke politics – Gerry Adams TD
Speaking in County Laois today where he attended the National Ploughing Championships, Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams TD accused the Taoiseach of embracing Fianna Fáil-style stroke politics over the appointment of John McNulty to the Seanad.
Gerry Adams said;
“The Ploughing Championship is a wonderful example of the resilience of our rural communities and our farming sector.
“Rural Ireland is under attack with the closure of schools, post offices, garda stations, courthouses and the withdrawal of services.
“Emigration is tearing the heart out of many rural communities and the issues of rural isolation and suicide are critical.
“These problems have been exacerbated by the government’s austerity agenda and it’s abandonment of rural Ireland.
“The current controversy over the Taoiseach’s appointment of John McNulty is further evidence that despite all the promises of a new era in politics, the Taoiseach has embraced Fianna Fáil-style stroke politics.
“Sinn Féin will continue to fight for a better deal for rural Ireland, and offer workable alternatives to this government’s unrelenting austerity agenda.”
