Humphreys should come before Oireachtas Committee to explain McNulty appointment – Brian Stanley TD
Sinn Féin member of the Oireachtas Committee on the Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht, Brian Stanley TD has today requested that Minister Heather Humphreys appear before the Committee next week to explain the background to the appointment of Fine Gael Seanad candidate, John McNulty to the board of the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Deputy Stanley said:
"There is a clear need, in the light of Mr. McNulty's very recent appointment to the board of IMMA, for the Minister to clarify exactly why this was done in the run up the announcement of his candidature in the forthcoming Seanad by-election.
"I have requested that Minister Humphreys be asked to appear before the committee at its next meeting. Fine Gael's promise of a new era of politics has clearly not come to fruition. This latest controversy merely highlights the government’s commitment to Fianna Fáil style stroke politics of old - a style of politics that was rejected by the people in 2011.
"My colleague, Sandra McLellan TD, has also asked that the Minister appear before the Dáil to make a statement on this matter.
"I think it is a matter of urgency that the Minister agrees to do this."
