Cathal King challenges Enda Kenny and Joan Burton on water charges
Sinn Féin candidate for the Dublin South West by-election Cllr Cathal King today attended the launch of the party’s proposals on water services. Cllr King challenged Enda Kenny and Joan Burton to come to Tallaght and meet with parents who simply don’t have money to pay this tax and are already struggling to survive.
Cllr. King said:
“In estate after estate across Tallaght local campaign groups are springing up in opposition to water charges. There is deep anger out there that Fine Gael and Labour are introducing this new tax from January. People simply don’t have the money to pay.
“I would challenge Enda Kenny and Joan Burton to come out to Tallaght to talk to parents who are struggling to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. They don’t have €300 to pay for water and they are already paying for water through their taxes.
“Water charges should not be included in this year’s budget. Instead of tax breaks for those on higher incomes the emphasis should be on easing the burden on those on low to middle incomes. This is about political choices. Sinn Féin is opposed to water charges. We blocked them in the North. We will reverse them in government. ”
