Senator Cullinane appointed as rapporteur in low pay investigation
Sinn Féin Senator David Cullinane was this afternoon appointed as rapporteur to the Oireachtas Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Committee’s investigation into low pay. Speaking in response to the decision Senator Cullinane said:
“I am very happy the Oireachtas Jobs Committee has decided to conduct a report into the related issues of the minimum wage, the living wage, and zero hour contracts.
“Submissions will be invited from interested parties such as trade unions, organised labour and NGO’s. A series of Committee hearings, private meetings and consultations with stakeholders will also take place.
“The completed report will be submitted to the Committee for consideration by March 2015.
“Low pay and poor working conditions are a reality for a significant number of workers for whom the race to the bottom is an everyday reality.
“A living wage is one the many options open to us to address this crisis.
“I look forward to engaging with the various interest groups and to presenting my completed report to the Oireachtas Jobs Committee.”
