Massive waste of Garda resources working for Irish Water
Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Mícheál Mac Donncha has condemned the massive waste of Garda resources being deployed to enforce the installation of Irish Water meters.
Cllr Mac Donncha was present this morning when two women were arrested at Limewood on the northside of the city.
“This morning 20 gardaí were deployed in the small estate of Limewood to enforce the installation of water meters by Irish Water. Two women were arrested for peacefully protesting, simply standing on a shore. The courts have vindicated the right to peaceful protest but the arrests this morning run contrary to that.
“This is a massive waste of scarce garda resources. Our communities are experiencing increased burglaries and other crimes yet garda resources are diverted to help enforce Irish Water meters. These charges must be abolished.”
