Criminals behind West Belfast gun attack represent no one - McVeigh

7 October, 2014

Sinn Féin councillor Jim McVeigh has condemned those responsible for shooting a man in the chest in west Belfast.

Speaking after a man in his 30s was shot in Oranmore Street, councillor McVeigh said;

"This shooting of a young man in Oranmore Street is totally wrong and must be condemned.

"This was the work of a criminal gang, who try to masquerade as republicans, while at the same time engaging in criminal activities themselves.

"Those behind this attack do not represent anyone.

"They should immediately end their violence and threats against the people of west Belfast.

"Anyone with information on this attack should bring it forward to the PSNI."
