Boylan praises the work of ECCP
Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan met today with a delegation from The European Coordination of Committees and Associations for Palestine (ECCP).
The ECCP is a network of 50 separate European organisations from 22 different countries campaigning for freedom, justice and equality for the people of Palestine.
Ms Boylan, who has recently returned from a delegation to Palestine, said:
"It is encouraging to see a vast swathe of organisations from civil society working with stakeholders on such an important issue"
"Since returning from Palestine and witnessing the destructive consequences of Israeli occupation first hand, I and my fellow Sinn Féin MEPs have made a commitment to support a lasting solution to the conflict on the basis of freedom and justice for Palestinian citizens.
"We will keep up the pressure in Europe to force all nations to wake up to the reality of what is happening in the region.
"One positive step that the EU could take immediately is to halt its preferential 'association agreement' with Israel as human rights abuses have and continue to be committed by the Israeli state against Palestinians.
"I have questioned the European Commission on EU obligations not to render aid or assistance towards Israeli violations of international law, including the illegal occupation of Palestinian territory.
"The international community must take a stand once and for all in holding Israel to account for it actions. Otherwise future generations will grow up witnessing the same horror and bloodshed."ENDS
