Vulnerable farmers were excluded - Ferris
Speaking after the announcement of Budget 2015, Sinn Féin agricultural spokesman, Martin Ferris TD, criticised the government for excluding farmers hit hardest by cuts and removal of support structures.
Deputy Ferris said:
“Vulnerable farmers were not looked after in this budget. The tax relief measures and measures designed to encourage the transfer of land, especially to younger farmers, are to be welcomed however.”
“However, the most vulnerable farmers who depended on Farm Assist have been excluded again and with nothing to replace REPS this year and for the foreseeable future. This is a cruel exclusion, driving this sector into poverty or out of farming.”
“The government is all talk about recovery, but the reality of rural towns and villages is very different and until jobs are created in rural Ireland, tinkering with taxation will have little effect.”
