DUP attempting to undermine inquiry - Maskey

16 October, 2014 - by Alex Maskey

Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has said the DUP is attempting to undermine a social development committee inquiry into political interference in the Housing Executive.

Speaking after suspending the committee meeting after DUP MLA Sammy Wilson accused Jim Allister of 'bullying' a witness, Mr Maskey said:

"As chair of the social development committee I suspended this morning's meeting because of the disgraceful and unacceptable behaviour of DUP members.

"In my opinion they were being deliberately disruptive in an attempt to undermine the inquiry.

"I was not going to allow that and no member of the Assembly would accept that sort of behaviour.

"Not only was the behaviour of some DUP members unacceptable, it also insults everyone who has participated in the inquiry.

"I will not allow the behaviour of any party to derail this inquiry."
