End the sham fight and join talks – Murphy tells DUP
Sinn Féin MP Conor Murphy has today called on the DUP to end its sham fight and join the all-party talks.
Conor Murphy said:
“The DUP should end its nonsense of staying out of talks over its opposition to the active involvement of the Irish government and its demand for an Orange Order parade in North Belfast.
“They are taking the public for fools if they persist with the charade that they won’t sit down in talks with the Irish government.
“The DUP were in the room when the Irish government was actively involved in the Hillsborough talks of 2010 on the issues of parades and the devolution of policing and justice powers.
“It’s ironic that the DUP leader Peter Robinson called for these talks and then chooses to stay outside the room.
“Peter Robinson should level with the public whether or not he believes the demand for an Orange Order march through a nationalist community is more important than partnership government, equality, health, welfare, education as well as the Haass issues of flags, parades and the past.
“These talks need to start with a plenary where all parties commit to a process and agree a programme for work.”
