Ó hOisín welcomes DRD procurement inquiry
Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has said the Regional Development committee will carry out an inquiry into procurement procedures.
Speaking after a meeting of the DRD committee, the East Derry MLA said;
"It was revealed this week the costs for replacing signalling on the Derry to Coleraine rail line has been vastly underestimated and would now cost double what had been planned.
"Initially it has been estimated at £20m and now it appears that it is actually going to cost around £40m.
"That huge difference needs to be explained.
"I have now secured a full committee inquiry to look into this and the wider issues of central procurement procedures.
"This inquiry is welcome and I hope it will be fully supported by all committee members.
"The Regional Development Minister and Translink will also be called before the committee to explain the rise in costs."
