Mickey Brady MLA to deliver oration at Edentubber Martyrs Commemoration
Newry/ Armagh MLA Mickey Brady will be the main speaker at the 57th Anniversary commemoration of the Edentubber Martyrs which will take place on Sunday the 9th of November at 2.30pm
The Edentubber Commemoration recognises the sacrifices of - Michael Watters, Oliver Craven, Paul Smith, Patrick Parle and George Keegan, who became known as the Edentubber Martyrs and demonstrates solidarity with their families and comrades who participated in Operation Harvest, the IRA campaign of 1956 - 1962.
Sinn Féin South Armagh MLA Megan Fearon who will chair the commemoration proceedings on the day, speaking in advance of the event said:
"The dual purpose of the annual Edentubber gathering by republicans is to honour the memory of those who died and to state clearly that republicans of 2014 are as determined and committed to the achievement of full freedom, national reconciliation and unity as republicans of 1916, 1956, or 1969. Different times and different conditions require different strategies but the goal and the commitment to that goal remain the same"
Newry/Armagh Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady the main speaker at the event said:
"Edentubber is of national importance to Irish Republicans. This year's 57th anniversary commemoration will serve to remind this generation of Irish Republicans of the sacrifices and hardships endured in earlier phases of struggle so that we can now complete the final stage of the journey to Irish Unity through peaceful means."
The Edentubber Martyrs Commemotation takes place on Sunday the 9th of November at 2-30. A Function will follow after the main Parade in the Carrickdale Hotel with music by Setanta
