DUP should apologise to Irish language community – McGuinness

5 November, 2014 - by Martin McGuinness

Sinn Féin MLA Martin McGuinness has called on the DUP to apologise for Gregory Campbell's insulting remarks directed at the Irish language community.

Martin McGuinness said:

“Gregory Campbell’s comments in the Assembly on Monday were insulting towards the Irish language community are unacceptable and, in my view, racist.

“I am calling on the DUP to show leadership on this issue and apologise immediately to the Irish language community.

“There is an onus on all of us in positions of political leadership to represent everyone in our society.

"That involves promoting equality, mutual respect and tolerance and standing up for all communities.

“Those are the core principles we are all signed up to.”
