Sinn Féin increase homeless funding by 150% – Mayor Warfield.
Speaking following the passing of the South Dublin County Council annual budget 2015, Sinn Féin Councillor for Templeogue-Terenure and Mayor of South Dublin County Fintan Warfield has welcomed the 150% increase in funding for homeless services.
An additional €900,000 will be provided in the 2015 Council Budget bringing the net cost of the homeless allocation to €1.5 million.
Mayor Warfield said; “Our homeless services must have the funding required to support those without a home and to assist them to live independently. No family should have to sleep night after night in a hotel. No young person should have to sleep rough on a cold winter’s night.”
“I wholeheartedly welcome this increase on the back of the commitment I made when taking office in June. Given the lack of affordable rented accommodation in Dublin, this 150% rise on last year’s provision of €900,000 is a welcome increase
”Sinn Fein is committed to tackling the homeless crisis facing our city and we will continue to campaign hard on this issue long after the budget is passed.”
