Martin Ferris TD expresses support for protesting Beef Farmers
Sinn Féin agriculture spokesman, Martin Ferris TD, has expressed support for protesting beef farmers today.
Deputy Ferris said:
"It is disappointing that, after long negotiation on Friday, no agreement could be reached between farmer and beef processors.
"The fact that farmers are in such dire straits but could not get recognition of that from the beef processors shows how necessary is intervention from Minister Coveney.
"When British farmers are getting €350 per head more for their cattle than their Irish counterparts, then something is very wrong. The product from Ireland is top class and a produced to the highest standards and Irish farmers are going under.
"The fact that they are taking action to protest again, so soon after their last demonstration, shows how angry and frustrated the farmers are. I call on the minister to intervene. To stand back from this urgent situation is just not good enough."
