Equality and respect for diversity is key to building reconciliation
Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann has said all forms of inequality and discrimination must be challenged if we are to create a better society for all.
Speaking at an Equality and Diversity Conference at the La Mon Hotel this morning she said,
"Our society has come a long way in recent years but unfortunately sectarianism, racism and other forms of hatred and intolerance can still be found.
“Political, civic and community leaders need to show leadership and tackle discrimination no matter where it manifests itself.
“Equality and diversity need to be held up as the cornerstone on which to build a society that is open and welcome to everyone.
"Bigotry and hatred have no place anywhere and it is only by challenging such views and behaviour that we can hope to move forward.”
