Taoiseach must clarify matters in respect of “whistleblower” file on alleged cases of tax evasion – Mary Lou McDonald TD
Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD has again urged An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, to comprehensively address matters in relation to his administration’s handling of allegations of tax evasion contained within the “whistleblower” file.
Speaking for Leinster House today, Deputy McDonald said;
“While I acknowledge that Minister Bruton has now passed the detailed witness statement to the ‘relevant authorities’, he must clarify which authorities he is referring to.
“The Minister had this statement in his possession for almost two years. Undoubtedly, the action of the “whistleblower” in coming forward ensured that the statement has now been finally passed on.
“The Minister has yet to offer a plausible reason for the almost two year delay.
“While nobody should be ‘interfering’ with any investigation, neither should such an important statement have been withheld for such a long period of time.
“The Taoiseach has still failed to clarify matters in respect of communications between the “whistleblower” and the Attorney General Máire Whelan.
“I am urging him to do so without delay.”
