Fine Gael MEP's support for Sinn Féin policy on Youth Guarantee welcomed- Lynn Boylan MEP
Dublin Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan has welcomed the recent move by Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune to add her voice of support to the Sinn Féin policy that everyone should be given equal access to all state training and employment scheme opportunities.
Speaking today in her capacity as group spokesperson on the European Globalisation Fund within the Employment Committee Lynn Boylan said:
“We have long called on this government and Minister Burton to review the implementation of the Youth Guarantee as young people on disability allowance are not provided with the same access to education and training opportunities as those on jobseekers payments.
Sinn Féin is active on promoting and ensuring equal access to employment and training schemes. For example, I recently had an amendment passed, in the European Budget Committee that will ensure that the training offered to help find or create jobs for those made redundant will not be exclusive, in the same manner as the youth guarantee was, and will include everyone, including disadvantaged groups.
When the Youth Guarantee scheme was conceived at European level, it was meant to address the various needs of all young people across Europe and unfortunately this government has yet again fallen short on addressing the needs of young people in this country, especially those with disabilities.
It is a refreshing change to see Fine Gael politicians supporting long held Sinn Féin policies especially on such an important issue.”
