McLaughlin pays tribute to role of nurses
Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has paid tribute to the role of nurses in the health service.
Speaking after attending the RCN Community Nursing Conference in Belfast, the chair of the Assembly's health committee said;
"Nurses are the backbone of our health service and play key roles every day in saving lives and caring for patients.
"I was pleased to attend this Community Nursing Conference to support nurses who are working under difficult circumstances in an increasingly pressurised health service.
"The ethos of the health service is shifting to community and primary care and district nurses are being expected to carry out more duties with no additional support or adequate workforce planning structures.
"Sinn Féin is committed to supporting nurses and protecting frontline health services. That is why we defended frontline health services in the draft budget and worked to secure an additional £200 million for health.”
