Kelly slams bomb attack on Crumlin Road

Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has condemned the people behind last night’s bomb attack on police on the Crumlin Road.

Gerry Kelly said:

“I condemn last night’s attack on police on the Crumlin Road close to Twaddell Avenue. Thankfully no one has been injured.

“These attacks are wrong and futile. Those behind them have been rejected, time and time again, by the local community who want these attacks to end.

“Once again the only thing those behind the attack have achieved is to bring disruption to the lives of the local people including disrupting Mass at the local Holy Cross church.

“The police officers targeted in last night’s attack are on the Crumlin Road because of the presence of the loyalist camp at Twaddell, which was set up in protest at a Parades Commission ruling to prevent an Orange march going through the nationalist area.

“It’s even more reprehensible therefore that these officers would be attacked as they attempt to make communities safer.

“I am calling therefore on the people who carried out this attack to listen to the local community and call a halt to their actions before someone is seriously injured or killed.”
