SDLP and UUP stance on health mismanagement a farce – Hazzard

18 November, 2014 - by Chris Hazzard

Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard has stated the posturing by the SDLP and UUP in and around the health budget has been shown to be a farce.

This follows the two parties walking out and abstaining on the vote rejecting the maladministration of the preceding Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety about his departmental budget.

Speaking today Hazzard said:

“The debate in the Assembly this week was focused on the budgetary mismanagement and the provision of adequate Equality Impact Assessments to be established as matter of priority before any final decisions are made regarding the budget.

“Both the SDLP and UUP health spokespersons are on record as being critical in the media of Edwin Poots’ approach to his departmental budgets and decisions.

“We have seen both parties posturing and puffing their chests out. However, when it comes to a vote in the Assembly on these very issues both parties chose to walk out rather than vote.

“We are here to represent people and debate their concerns. The question must be asked as to how that can be done by walking away from a critical vote following a debate they are involved in.”
