Save Dalriada campaign raised directly with minister - McKay

20 November, 2014

Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has said the campaign to save Dalriada Hospital from closure was raised directly with the health minister today.

The North Antrim MLA said;

"Sinn Féin Minister Michelle O'Neill raised the issue of the closure of Dalriada Hospital directly with the Health Minister Jim Wells today.

"In particular, she highlighted the actions of the Northern Trust who, at the same that the Minister was meeting campaigners on Monday, went to the Dalriada to tell staff that they would be closing a ward within days.

"Those actions were totally unacceptable given that the Minister had told campaigners the situation was under review and he was working towards a resolution.

"Ultimately this is the minister's decision. He must make an immediate intervention to prevent the moving of staff out of the Dalriada on Monday. If he does not then we will know with absolute certainty that he is standing behind the Northern Trust and their actions.

"Sinn Fein will continue to raise this matter at the highest level and to work towards a resolution that secures the future of the Dalriada."
