Government criticised over failure to provide all-Ireland travel scheme for pensioners
Sinn Féin TD and spokesperson on Transport, Seán Crowe today challenged
the Taoiseach and Government in the Dáil today on their failure to put in
place an all-Ireland travel scheme for pensioners. He said there were no
excuses for the continued delay.
Deputy Crowe, speaking during
Taoiseachs Questions said, "One of the commitments in the Programme for
Government under the heading 'Working for Peace' is to put in place an
all-Ireland travel scheme for pensioners resident in all parts of the
island. Where does that stand? This is a relatively straightforward
provision so why is it taking so long to be implemented?
"If we
are serious about breaking down barriers, real or imagined, and building
bridges across the border then there are no excuses for the continued
delay. If money is not an obstacle as the Taoiseach has claimed then we
need to have the whole process speeded up considerably."
